Find yourself at the hub of life
Within a five mile radius of The Brookwood is a wide variety of artistic and cultural institutions, events and activities. The Brookwood is less than a mile from Woodruff Arts Center, the heartbeat of Atlanta's arts community. The Center offers a bold variety of performing and visual arts - both traditional and avant-garde. For 30 years, Woodruff Center has set the arts standard for Atlanta and the Southeast. The Woodruff Arts Center includes the Alliance Theatre, High Museum of Art, Young Audiences, 14th Street Playhouse and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
For horticulturalists, there is Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Established in 1973, the Garden has become a main attraction for the city. In addition to its flower gardens, the Garden has become a major educational institution for conservation and sustainability, and is acclaimed for its major exhibitions such as Chihuly in the Garden.
Also nearby, the historic Fox Theatre, originally the Yaarab Temple Shrine Mosque, it was designed in the late 1920's. The beautifully outlandish, opulent, grandiose monument to the heady excesses of the pre-crash 1920's, is a mosque-like structure complete with minarets, onion domes, and an interior decor which was even more lavish than its facade. Today the restored Fox Theatre offers Broadway shows, musical performances, movies and other entertainment throughout the year.
Children and those young at heart will enjoy the Center for Puppetry Arts, and for history buffs, there is the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum. And a stroll down Peachtree is a walk through the history of the South. Follow the historic markers as they denote the events of the Civil War that took place along Peachtree.
The art and culture of the area also extends to the shops and galleries. Nearby Bennett Street, a former country road, has evolved into a collection of more than 50 art studios, galleries, antique shops, and restaurants. Collectively there are more than 11,000 pieces of work that are demonstrative of 19th and 20th century American and decorative art, significant European pieces, modern and contemporary art, photography, African art and folk art.
From Peachtree and 28th Street there is an abundance of art, culture and activity waiting to be discovered.
